The Azimut|Benetti Group and SEA Index® are pleased to announce a landmark agreement to reduce carbon emissions in the yachting industry.

As part of the agreement, the Superyacht Eco Association will support Azimut|Benetti Group in adopting its flagship SEA Index CO2 Emissions Rating tool for yachts over 24 metres. This will be deployed by Azimut|Benetti Group's R&D Team as an eco-design tool to enhance the sustainability of its fleet.

Applicable to both fully custom and semi-custom yachts >24m, the SEA Index CO2 Emissions Rating tool delivers accurate, unbiased and third-party verified emissions data. In addition to being used by yacht owners to assess the energy intensity of their vessels, the SEA Index framework can be integrated into the concept phase of new-build yachts to support eco-conscious boat design and construction.

"We are thrilled to partner with SEA Index to reinforce our commitment to sustainable yacht design by validating our yachts' emission targets through SEA Index's rigorous framework. Achieved through advanced naval architecture and cutting-edge technologies, these targets reflect our dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, we believe this collaboration will encourage greater transparency in data sharing, fostering a more conscious approach among industry players and yacht owners alike," states Alessandro Rossi, Chief Product Officer Azimut|Benetti Group.

This initiative marks the next chapter in the partnership between Azimut|Benetti Group and SEA Index, following the 2023 announcement of the upcoming adoption of the Carbon Emission Index for yachts under 24 meters, developed by Lloyd's Register at the drive of Azimut|Benetti Group. This innovative formula is designed to accurately assess and rate the carbon footprint of <24m yachts, involving the most widespread category of yachts in our seas.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Azimut|Benetti Group on this important initiative. It is encouraging to see esteemed industry leaders embracing the SEA Index CO2 Emissions Rating tool to prioritise sustainability from the outset. Similarly, we look forward to incorporating Azimut's formula for measuring carbon emissions of yachts under 24 metres into the SEA Index ecosystem. Together, we can drive meaningful change in the industry and empower yachting stakeholders to embrace a more sustainable future", comments Natalie Quevert, Project Lead, SEA Index.
